What Happens in a Happy Core Session? A Sneak Peek at How We Build Emotional Strength

Updated: Feb 28

Parents often ask, “What exactly happens during a Happy Core session?” The answer? A unique, science-backed, and engaging experience designed to help kids develop emotional resilience, confidence, and self-regulation—while having fun!

In every session, kids don’t just learn—they experience, feel, and practice tools that help them manage emotions, build confidence, and develop a strong sense of self. Let’s take a sneak peek inside a session at The Happy Core!

Step 1: Setting the Tone – Safe, Calm, and Engaging

Each session begins with a grounding moment - or a snack -  to help kids transition from their busy day into a focused, relaxed state.

Breathwork or Mindful Movement – We start with a simple breathing exercise or body movement to release tension and settle energy.

Superpower Check-in – Kids reflect on a small win or strength from their week to set a positive tone.

Visual Anchor – We introduce a stickers, images, or objects that represent the session’s theme, specific exercises and tools — making learning memorable and engaging. These objects will be used to decorate their personal canvas.

Why This Works: ADHD and anxious kids need structure and predictability. This opening sequence helps them feel safe, focused, and emotionally ready to participate.

Step 2: The Lesson – Learning Through Play & Experience

Each session has a specific focus area, such as:

  • Emotional Regulation

  • Confidence & Self-Esteem

  • Focus & Executive Function

  • Social Skills & Communication

  • Mindset & Resilience

But instead of just talking, we engage kids through hands-on experiences!

🔹 Storytelling & Hypnosis – Kids enter a guided visualization to imagine themselves practicing new skills successfully.

🔹Mindset Coaching with hands- on Learning experiences and physical experiments, because it's more fun and lecturing doesn't work.

🔹 Role-Playing & Social Games – Practicing real-life situations in a safe, supportive way.

🔹 Brain Gym & Movement-Based Learning – Using physical activities to reinforce self-regulation and focus.

🔹 EFT Tapping – A simple technique to release anxiety and tension in the moment.

Why This Works: Kids don’t just need to hear about emotional skills—they need to feel and experience them in action.

Step 3: The Happy Core Canvas – Turning Learning into a Visual Anchor

Each child has a personal Happy Core Canvas, which they add to after every session.

What’s on the Canvas?

✔ A sticker, drawing, or symbol that represents what they learned

✔ A short affirmation to reinforce their new skill

✔ A color or pattern to personalize their journey

Why This Works: When kids visually track their progress, it reinforces learning and builds confidence. The canvas becomes a reminder of their growth and a great conversation tool at home.

The Take-Home Tool – Empowering Kids to Practice at Home

Each session ends with a practical tool kids can use in daily life to reinforce what they learned.

Examples of Take-Home Tools:

  • A recorded Self-Hypnosis to use at home (usually at bedtime)

  • A breathing card for when they feel overwhelmed

  • A “pause button” sticker to remind them to stop and think before reacting

  • A mini affirmation card to carry in their pocket for confidence boosts

  • A printout of the Tapping routine

Why This Works: Kids need repetition to build habits! These tools help them integrate what they learned into real life.

Step 5: Parent Connection – Keeping the Growth Going

Parents are key partners in their child’s success, so we provide:

✔ A quick session summary – What we worked on & how to reinforce it at home

✔ A fun practice idea – A simple way to help their child apply the new skill

✔ A progress check-in – Celebrating small wins and making adjustments as needed

Why This Works: When parents understand what their child is learning, they can provide support and encouragement—creating long-term change.

The Result? A Happier, More Resilient Child

At The Happy Core, we’re not just teaching kids how to calm down, focus, or feel confident—we’re giving them lifelong tools to navigate emotions, build resilience, and believe in themselves.
